Brainwashed Since Birth

Entitlement is not a word I used much growing up because it never seemed like it had a place in my life. As I've gotten older though I noticed people around me that I know both personally and on an acquaintance level seem to think they are owed something. No matter what amount of effort they put it, they think they are owed the same as someone who put in hours of work even if they only put in a little. It didn't seem to be a problem before but now it is a growing one and popping up in every form of life.

People have been protesting all over the world lately and "fighting" for what they perceive is theirs. But why is it theirs is the question? I've never felt like I was given the respect, appreciation or pay that I deserve for things that I've done, but I don't believe it is owed to me. It would just be the fair thing to do based on what I've given to others.

Some of my friends believed that are owed a great job just because they have a degree, not understanding that the degree is not directly attached to the job itself. It's like begging your parents to let you got a party and then acting as if you have to be let in to the party because your parents said you should go. Or having a birthday and thinking that getting presents is a right. It's not, and it never has been but we've been taught to think this way since birth.

Everyone wants to do what they want to do and get their own way, and your automatically wrong for not going along with it in their opinion. I even heard of a case where a few students in debt felt they shouldn't have to pay back their student loans for some ridiculous reason. Possibly because they couldn't find a job, but it's their fault their in debt, no one can force you to accept a loan, and paying a loan back is in the very definition of the word itself.

Entitlement is slowly creeping into everything I see and it's a dangerous probably that's not being handled at all at the moment. If people don't wake up and see how out of control this could eventually become, that all these protest may just be the start of an even bigger issue that it doesn't seem like anyone is even paying attention too.
